Piece description from the artist
"My grandfather was always into taking photos of cloud formations in Oklahoma—especially the big thunderheads the would menace the afternoon and evening skies. He mainly shot Kodachrome and we would sit down monthly for the big slide show after dinner. It was a real treat. It's my desire to follow in his footsteps and be a witness to the clouds that affect my life."
Matt Gragg's experience spans over 40 years. He grew up in Colorado and studied fine art photography in Banff, Canada in the 1970s where he learned aspects of the Zone System for visualization and black and white exposure and development, and Dye Transfer color printing.
Later he received his degree in journalism in the photojournalism sequence at the University of Missouri – Columbia.
Much has changed technologically since that time. What hasn’t changed is his vision or approach to sharing the earthly narrative.
Mr. Gragg is passionate about exploring the fine details of nature that some might take for granted. He also believes we must take extreme care of nature and supports conservation efforts from his second home in state of Hawaii and elsewhere.
