Piece description from the artist
While hiking on the cliffs above the popular, beach at Crystal Cove, California, as I descended a dusty path to the beach I was struck by this magnificent sea scape. I sat down and sketched the scene, then completed the painting in my studio. The painting was made on Arches Huile, a unique paper, especially created to accept oil paints. I have always loved drawing on paper, to be able to paint in oils on the same warm natural surface is a double treat for me.
Raised in Zimbabwe and transplanted to the United States as a teenager, Roger has learned to straddle different worlds and cultures. His unique artistic style reflects his diverse background and myriad cultural influences.
As I turn around and prepare to leave the party, my paintings are celebrations of the last things I’ve observed.
