Piece description from the artist
Who else is surprised when they see a monarch in October? I always think of the monarch as a summer butterfly, but they often travel through the mid-Atlantic in September and October as they return home to Mexico for the winter. On this autumn afternoon, we were exploring the dunes of Chincoteague and I watched this intrepid monarch hold tightly to every flower he could find as the ocean breeze threatened to separate him from his golden food source.
