Piece description from the artist
A favorite and oft traveled route from Albuquerque to adventure further north in southwest Colorado is northbound Route 550. On the outskirts of Bernalillo, this northbound sign was missing the Route 550 insignia for as long as I could remember. I made it a tradition to stop and photograph the sign on most jaunts north to Durango, et al. The ritual carried a special place in my road trip and adventure life for many years. Coming upon this sign meant I had slipped free of the urbanity of Albuquerque and was heading to wilder environs. Sometime around 2013, the Route 550 insignia was added to the sign, and the simple, abstract delight of the "NORTH" sign was lost. I am glad I recorded the scene before it progressed beyond its unique nature, as much of the American West does as we continue to progress.
