Piece description from the artist
Up to 30 thin layers of blended oil and wax are applied with a palette knife, spatula and brayer on a wood panel. Each layer is scratched, scraped and incised with carving tools and whisks for texture and interest. The grid-like pattern to the mid-left area was created by dipping an avocado mesh bag in mineral spirits and laying it over the painting. After the mesh was removed, I used a scraper to reveal underlaying colors. The original painting was purchased in 2015 by collectors in Alexandria, VA. The couple loved the title, and their 13-year-old son had an active role in the decision-making.
