Sea Spine

Piece description from the artist

Sea Spine is a unique and fantastic flowering shell, adorned with a peacock feather, lilacs, and the whispers of ocean hair. Inspired by stories of hidden oceans on the distant planets and the joy of discovery, this work was created with pen, ink, acrylic paint, & collage.

About Jenny Brown

Providence, RI

Over the past two decades, Jenny has been making art which questions our long held understandings of time, space, energy, and matter. With a focus on visualizing the most lush & ethereal phenomena of the natural world, her collages and drawings are first and foremost celebrations of the ongoing physical and spiritual evolution of our universe. The use of layered antique collage, alongside elements of painting & drawing, provides her the building blocks for studying and illustrating the complexities of what was, what is, and what could be.

Jenny is a 1996 graduate of Bennington College and received her MFA in 2005 from The School of Visual Arts, where she focused on the study of painting, drawing, and collage. Jenny moved to Rhode Island in 2008, and currently works out of an antique & vintage paper filled studio in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood. Over the past few years, her work has been shown at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, NE, Drive-by Projects in Watertown, MA, & the Superfine Art Fair in Washington DC. Jenny has also worked with Squam Art Workshops, both as a freelance art instructor and a member of the event support staff, since 2022. In October of 2024, her first book art project debuted on the cover of “These Dark Things-12 New Gothic Tales,” published by Briar Press.
