Piece description from the artist
The annual migration of North America’s monarch butterfly is a unique and amazing phenomenon, and it is the only butterfly known to make a two-way migration as birds do. This one, sipping the nectar in West Virginia likely has a second home in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico. I managed to capture this one in garden in the late summer before it made its way home.
Steve Heap has been a photographer for over 50 years now (which is frightening to think about!) but in that time he has developed an eye for what would make a striking piece of wall art. Photography is all about the light and his finest attribute is patience! Waiting for the conditions to be just right is the key to making a piece of art that you can be proud of. Of course, luck plays a part, but without that patience of being in the right place at the right time, it just becomes a snapshot. He focuses on capturing images from around the world – timeless shots that reward the viewer with insights as they spend more time with them!
