Piece description from the artist
My first 2022 painting titled "The Lightness of Being" indicates a change in my approach to the mixed media painting process I developed beginning early 2019. Like many of my earlier mixed medium paintings, I used handmade papers for the background to create a grid-like pattern. And as usual, I sanded between layers of paper and added subtle layers of paint between the layers.
But, what is different about this one, is that I applied other smaller shapes of various colors of paper to define my subject. By adding more layers and combining the mediums I work with, I can add more intrigue and mystery to the process and work. Also, I added even more layers to my collage papers to obscure lines that define the form and soften the lines that form the horse.
Finally, to enhance the airy and graceful shape of the horse, I chose cheerful, light, spring-like colors and transparent papers for the final layers. My ultimate goal is that this painting is that it refers to life's capacity to renew itself. A quote from Henry Blake comes to mind, "Every day has a moment of eternity trying to reach you."
The natural world and her love for animals inspire Dara Daniel's Acrylic on canvas, mixed-media paintings. She combines bold colors and shapes and lots of textures to create fun, playful interpretations of horses and other animal spirits.
For all her paintings, she combines all the available elements of design to express rhythms and energy and moods and emotion. Dara explains, "Each painting experience is unique yet, my goal for all my paintings is to capture a degree of nature's passionate spirit, joy, and beauty."
