Wild Heart

Piece description from the artist

"Wild Heart" is a painting of a white horse gazing directly at the viewer while coming forward. Besides the intense gaze of the horse, inspirational for this piece were the contrasting light and dark shapes defining its form.

To begin this painting, I first drew the horse's shape relative to the negative space around it. Then, I built the form of the horse by applying layers of Acrylic molding paste. I added thick and thin layers of colors to establish shadows and light and create more texture.

My palette for this painting includes lots of white with a tad of mauve for the light and marine green, ivory black, and hints of violet for the shadows. During my process, I allowed accidents and drips. After six or more sessions, the horse and its lively spirit arrived.
